English Bazar (community development block) is an administrative division in Malda Sadar subdivision of Malda district in the Indian state of West Bengal. English Bazar police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Malda.[1]

Geography

English Bazar community development block has an area of 251.85 km2.[2]

Gram panchayats of English Bazar block/ panchayat samiti are: Sovanagar, Milki, Binodpur, Amriti, Phulbaria, Kazigram, Jadupur I, Jadupur II, Mahadipur, Kotwali, Narhatta.[3]

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India English Bazar CD Block had a total population of 274,627 of which 242,797 were rural and 31,830 were urban. There were 140,932 males and 133,695 females. Scheduled Castes numbered 47,532 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 5,187.[4]

Literacy

As per 2011 census the total number of literates in English Bazar CD Block was 148,061 out of which 80,848 were males and 67,213 were females.[4]
