26 is the only integer that is one greater than a square (52 + 1) and one less than a cube (33 − 1).[1]

The 26th of the month is considered an unlucky date as numerous deadly disasters took place on the 26th, such as Indian Ocean tsunami on 26 December 2004 claiming 230,000 lives, the 1939 Erzincan earthquake killing 41,000 people on 26 December 1939, Krakatoa volcanic eruption on 26 August 1883, leaving 36,000 dead, and Mumbai attacks on 26 November 2008, resulting in 166 deaths.[2] The superstition surrounding the number 26 is mentioned in chapter 2:6 of the Book of Haggai, "Before long, I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land".[3] The quote in the bible is consistent with historical statistic that most of the notable deadly disasters taking place on the 26th were earthquakes.
