The Miss United States Virgin Islands (Miss U.S. Virgin Islands) is a national Beauty pageant in U.S. Virgin Islands. This pageant is unrelated to the Miss Virgin Islands which sending its winner to the Miss America national contest or Miss British Virgin Islands pageant.

History

Between 1961 and 1978, the National Committee of Virgin Islands celebrated Miss Virgin Islands contest, in which the grand winners competed at the Miss Universe and other beauty pageants. Beginning in 1979, the official name changed to Miss U.S. Virgin Islands.

National committees

Since 1961 beauty pageants become national carnival of the U.S. Virgin Islands in under Virgin Islands Carnival Committee. Between 1961 and 1978 the Miss Virgin Islands national competition had organized national pageant to send the winners to the International pageants. Cherrie Raphaelia Creque was the only one Miss Virgin Islands who placed as the Top 15 of Miss Universe 1971 while the very first queen of Virgin Islands was Priscila Bonilla who competed at the Miss Universe 1961 in the United States.

Between 1978 and 2007 Miss United States Virgin Islands contest had become the most prestigious contest in the islands. The Miss U.S. Virgin Islands titleholders constantly competed at the Miss Universe while the Miss World candidate of this islands traditionally crowned in the same event and participated in the pageant as Miss American Virgin Islands.

In 2010 there are two the most reliable title for the U.S. Virgin Islands. The local committee held Miss Universe U.S. Virgin Islands and Miss World U.S. Virgin Islands. The two winners had selected in separation pageant.

In 2011 Miss U.S. Virgin Islands was back selecting three national titleholders when the winner went to Miss Universe and runners-up went to Miss World and Miss Earth pageants.

In 2016 Miss U.S Virgin Islands pageant was returned by US Ventures, LLC is the official 2016 licensee in the US Virgin Islands under license by the Miss Universe Organization.

The winner of Miss U.S. Virgin Islands represents her country at the Miss Universe. On occasion, when the winner does not qualify (due to age) for either contest, a runner-up is sent. Since 2012 the islands have absent.

Between 1961 and 1978 called as Miss Virgin Islands. The celebration of Miss Virgin Islands did not held in 1963-1966, 1969-1970.

Miss World U.S. Virgin Islands

Between 1982 and 2011 the 1st Runners-up of Miss U.S. Virgin Islands represented their country at the Miss World pageant. Sometimes the islands sent its winner to the Miss World pageant. Since 2012 the Miss Paradise U.S. Virgin Islands winner might select its winner to the Miss World pageant.

This pageant promotes Environment and does a climate program. Since 2012, the Miss Earth U.S. Virgin Islands may select by appointing candidate in under Miss U.S. Paradise.
