Poorvottar Sampark Kranti Express is one of the Sampark Kranti Express trains of Indian Railways. It connects New Delhi, the capital city of India with Assam. Earlier it used to run between New Delhi and Guwahati, the capital city of Assam. From March 2016, it is extended upto Silchar. The train is named as Purvottar Express since it connects New Delhi with the north east region of the country, known as Poorvottar in Hindi.
Service
Numbered as 12501/12502, this train takes approximately 31 hours to complete a distance of 1904 km. En route it stops at Goalpara Town, New Bongaigaon, New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Allahabad, Mughal Sarai and Kanpur in both up and down journey, with technical halts at Mughal Sarai, Patna (bypasses Barauni Jn using the bypass track) . This train belongs to Northeast Frontier Railway zone of the Indian Railways.[1][2]
Coaches
The train consists of one composite 1A/2A coach (HA-1), one 2A coach (A-1), four 3A (B-1/B-2/B-3/B-4), eight sleeper, one pantry car, no general coaches and two SLR coaches. Sometimes one or two high-capacity parcel vans may be attached. Total coach count is usually 20 or 21.
Traction
Between Guwahati-Mughal Sarai, the train is hauled by a WDP-4 or WDP-4B of Siliguri diesel loco shed or WDM 3A/WDM-3D of Gonda diesel loco shed or Lucknow shed/twin WDM-2A belonging to New Guwahati diesel Loco Shed. From Mughal Sarai-New Delhi, mostly WAP 5 of Ghaziabad Electric Loco Shed/WAP 7 of Ghaziabad Electric Loco Shed/WAP 4 from Mughal Sarai/Kanpur/Ghaziabad/Howrah/Itarsi is used.
But the problem of this train is though being a superfast train plying between Guwahati and New Delhi, its travel time is drastically long. If it would have taken 31 hours, then undoubtedly it is a very good train, at least after Rajdhani Express, it is probably the best train to connect the North-Eastern Region with the capital of India. But the train usually takes more than 40 hours en route both up and down direction, making the passengers' journey miserable. The Average speed of this train is 62KM per hour. The train is usually can be use for office purpose, because the train connect station in very low time. The train route is very nicely maintained and the view of Shebog road is tremendous.
