WJCW is an AM radio station broadcasting in the Tri-Cities, Tennessee area under a news/talk format. It broadcasts on AM frequency 910 kHz and is under ownership of Cumulus Media. The station is licensed to Johnson City, and shares a studio with Cumulus' other Tri-Cities stations in Gray, Tennessee.
History
WJCW originally signed on in 1938 as WJHL, owned by John H. Lancaster, Sr. It was the second radio station in the Tri-Cities. Under Lancaster's son Hanes and grandson Hanes Jr., the station spawned an FM station (now WQUT) and a television station (still under the WJHL-TV calls).
WJHL-AM was eventually sold later to James C. Wilson (son of the founder of the area's first radio station, WOPI)[1] in 1960 and renamed WJCW. In 1990, it became the Tri-Cities' first news/talk station.
Programming
WJCW airs a local morning show entitled Thinking Out Loud with hosts Tim Cable and Carl Swann, as well as Chris Plante, The Rush Limbaugh Show, The Savage Nation, Mark Levin, Jonathan Brandmeier, Jim Bohannon, and others.
