WQXA-FM
WQXA-FM (105.7 The X) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to serve York, Pennsylvania. The station is owned by Cumulus Media and broadcasts a modern rock format, as stated by its owner.[1] Studios are located at 2300 Vartan Way, Suite 130, Harrisburg, PA,[2] and the station's broadcast tower is located near York at (39°59′56.00″N 76°41′42.00″W / 39.9988889°N 76.6950000°W / 39.9988889; -76.6950000).[3]
History
The station was formerly known as "Q106" in the 1980s. In the early 1990s the station's branding changed to "Hot 105.7" along with a format change to dance music. In 1995, the format changed from Top 40 to active rock with a branding change to "105.7 The Edge".[4] Later the format changed to modern rock with a branding change to "105.7 The X".
In 2011, the United States Department of Justice approved the purchase of Citadel Broadcasting by Cumulus.[5] Prior to the merger, WQXA-FM was owned by Citadel Broadcasting.[6]
Signal note
WQXA-FM is short-spaced to WJZ-FM "105.7 The Fan" (licensed to serve Catonsville, Maryland) as they both operate on 105.7 MHz and are only about 55 miles apart. The minimum distance between two co-channel Class B FM radio stations according to current FCC rules is 150 miles.[7]
