Gidhour (Hindi: गिद्धौर) (also spelled Gidhaur) is a community development block that forms an administrative division in Simaria subdivision of Chatra district, Jharkhand state, India. It is located 15 km from Chatra.

Geography

Gidhour is located at 24°10′45″N 85°1′27″E / 24.17917°N 85.02417°E / 24.17917; 85.02417.[1]

There are 6 panchayats and 38 villages in Gidhour CD Block.[2]

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India Gidhaur CD Block had a total population of 40,919, all of which were rural. There were 20,910 males and 20,009 females. Scheduled Castes numbered 9,834 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 704.[3]

Magahi, Nagpuri, Khortha, Hindi and Urdu are spoken in the region.[4]

Literacy

As per 2011 census the total number of literates in Gidhaur CD Block was 22,651 out of which 13,228 were males and 9,423 were females.[3]
