Itkhori (Hindi: इटखोरी) is a community development block that forms an administrative division in Chatra subdivision of Chatra district, Jharkhand state, India. It is located 35 km from Chatra and 16 km from Chauparan on NH 2.

Geography

Itkhori is located at 24°17′49″N 85°9′18″E / 24.29694°N 85.15500°E / 24.29694; 85.15500.[1]

There are 12 panchayats and 159 villages in Itkhori , Dhuna is one of the oldest village CD Block.[2]

The Mohana flows through Itkhori CD Block.[3]

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India Itkhori CD Block had a total population of 72,929, all of which were rural. There were 37,869 males and 37,060 females. Scheduled Castes numbered 17,882 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 338.[4]

Itkhori village had a total population of 7,121 as per 2011 census.[4]

Magahi is the local language in Itkhori CD Block. People also speak Nagpuri, Khortha, Hindi and Urdu.[5]

Literacy

As per 2011 census the total number of literates in Itkhori CD Block was 41,775 out of which 24,776 were males and 17,499 were females Krshnaballbh sahay high school is famous high school there. Land of this school is donated by Parmeshwar Dayal who was lanlord of Dhuna Village Approx 1000 student study in this school there was huge lan situated as a play ground approx totally land 601 katha donated by Dhuna niwasi.Santosh Sinha said that at present time this land value is approx 10 crore..[4]

Culture

Lord Buddha is said to have sat for meditation at Itkhori. There are various Buddhist relics at Itkhori dating from 200 BC to 1,200 AD. The Bhadrakali temple was built in the 9th century AD. The remnants of the past reflect a superior quality of workmanship. [6]There are some links to the Jain Teerthankar, Sheetalnath. [7]
