Chile is scheduled to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Chilean athletes have competed in every Summer Olympic Games of the modern era, having missed only two editions: the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles at the period of the Great Depression and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, because of the US-led boycott.
Athletics
Chilean athletes have so far achieved qualifying standards in the following athletics events (up to a maximum of 3 athletes in each event):[1][2]
- Men's marathon – 3 quota places
- Men's 20 km walk – 1 quota place (Yerko Araya)
- Men's 50 km walk – 1 quota place (Edward Araya)[3]
- Women's 200 m – 1 quota place (Isidora Jiménez)
- Women's shot put – 1 quota place (Natalia Ducó)
- Women's discus throw – 1 quota place (Karen Gallardo)
- Women's marathon – 2 quota places (Erika Olivera, Natalia Romero)
Cycling
Road
Chile has qualified one rider in the men's Olympic road race by virtue of his top 20 individual ranking in the 2015 UCI America Tour.[4]

Gymnastics
Artistic
Chile has entered two artistic gymnasts into the Olympic competition. London 2012 fourth-place finalist Tomás González and fellow Olympian Simona Castro had claimed their Olympic spots each in the men's and women's apparatus and all-around events, respectively, at the Olympic Test Event in Rio de Janeiro.[7][8]

Chile has qualified one boat each in the men's and women's lightweight double sculls, respectively, for the Olympics at the 2016 Latin American Continental Qualification Regatta in Valparaiso.[9][10]

Taekwondo
Chile entered one athlete into the taekwondo competition at the Olympics. Ignacio Morales secured a spot in the men's lightweight category (68 kg) by virtue of his top two finish at the 2016 Pan American Qualification Tournament in Aguascalientes, Mexico.[16]
