Saudi Arabia is scheduled to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This will be the nation's eleventh appearance at the Olympics, with the exception of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow because of its partial support to the US-led boycott.
Athletics
Saudi Arabian athletes have so far achieved qualifying standards in the following athletics events (up to a maximum of 3 athletes in each event):[1][2]
- Men's 100 m – 1 quota place (Abdullah Abkar Mohammed)
- Men's 400 m – 1 quota place (Yousef Masrahi)
- Men's 800 m – 1 quota place (Ali Saad Al-Daran)
- Men's 5000 m – 1 quota place (Tariq Ahmed Al-Amri)
Shooting
Saudi Arabia has qualified one shooter in the men's pistol events by virtue of his best finish at the 2016 Asian Olympic Qualifying Tournament in New Delhi, India, as long as he obtained a minimum qualifying score (MQS) by March 31, 2016.[3]
