Athletics

Norwegian athletes have so far achieved qualifying standards in the following athletics events (up to a maximum of 3 athletes in each event):^[1][2]

• Men's 1500 m – 1 quota place (Henrik Ingebrigtsen)
• Men's 5000 m – 1 quota place (Sindre Buraas)
• Men's marathon – 2 quota place (Sondre Nordstad Moen, Asbjorn Ellefsen Persen)
• Men's 20 km walk – 1 quota place (Erik Tysse)^[3]
• Men's 50 km walk – 1 quota place (Håvard Haukenes)
• Women's 100 m – 1 quota place (Ezinne Okparaebo)
• Women's 5000 m – 1 quota place (Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal)
• Women's 100 m hurdles – 1 quota place (Isabelle Pedersen)

Cycling

Norwegian riders qualified for the following quota places in the men's and women's Olympic road race by virtue of their top 15 national finish in the 2015 UCI World Tour (for men) and top 22 in the 2016 UCI World Ranking (for women).^[4]

Gymnastics

Artistic

Norway has entered one artistic gymnast into the Olympic competition for the first time since 2000. Stian Skjerahaug had claimed his Olympic spot in the men's apparatus and all-around events at the Olympic Test Event in Rio de Janeiro.^[5]

The Norwegian women's handball team qualified for the Olympics by winning the 2015 World Championships in Denmark.^[6]

Shooting

Norwegian shooters have achieved quota places for the following events by virtue of their best finishes at the 2014 and 2015 ISSF World Championships, the 2015 ISSF World Cup series, and European Championships or Games, as long as they obtained a minimum qualifying score (MQS) by March 31, 2016.^[8]

Swimming

Taekwondo

Norway entered one athlete into the taekwondo competition at the Olympics. Tina Skaar secured a place in the women's heavyweight category (+67 kg) by virtue of her top two finish at the 2016 European Qualification Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey.^[11]

Wrestling

Norway has qualified one wrestler for the men's Greco-Roman 59 kg into the Olympic competition as a result of his semifinal triumph at the first meet of the World Qualification Tournament.^[12][13]
