Latvia is scheduled to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This will be the nation's seventh consecutive appearance at the Games in the post-Soviet era and eleventh overall in Summer Olympic history.
Athletics

Latvian athletes have so far achieved qualifying standards in the following athletics events (up to a maximum of 3 athletes in each event):[1][2]
- Men's marathon – 1 quota place (Valērijs Žolnerovičs)
- Men's 50 km race walk; 1 quota place (Arnis Rumbenieks)
- Men's javelin throw – 1 quota place (Rolands Štrobinders)
- Men's pole vault – 1 quota place (Pauls Pujāts)
- Women's 400 m – 1 quota place (Gunta Latiševa-Čudare)
- Women's marathon – 2 quota places (Ilona Marhele, Jeļena Prokopčuka)
- Women's 20 km race walk; 1 quota place (Agnese Pastare)
- Women's javelin throw – 2 quota places (Sinta Ozoliņa-Kovala, Madara Palameika)
- Women's heptathlon – 1 quota place (Laura Ikauniece-Admidiņa)
Cycling

Road
Latvian riders qualified for a maximum of two quota places in the men's Olympic road race by virtue of their top 15 final national ranking in the 2015 UCI Europe Tour.[3][4]

Wrestling

Latvia has qualified one wrestler for the women's freestyle 63 kg into the Olympic competition, as a result of her top six finish at the 2015 World Championships.[5][6]
