District 4

The incumbent for District 4 is Republican Trey Gowdy. After Gowdy declined to run for House Majority Leader following the announcement the October 2015 resignation of John Boehner, the Speaker of the House, John Fleming told reporters that Gowdy would not run for reelection in 2016. Gowdy's office denied the report,[2] and said he had "every intention" of running in 2016.[3]
